I still have a couple of spots left for my short but sweet holiday sessions so don’t miss out on this great opportunity to capture your family for your holiday cards. October 24th is a morning session at the pier and November 8th is an evening session at Linda Lane. This package includes a 5×7 digital negative that you can use to make your holiday photo cards with. If you would rather do a session at your home or a different location, I am offering my 30 minute mini session for a family of 4 for only $175 and you get 10 beautifully bordered proof prints!
Not only am I excited about doing some new holiday sessions with you but I would love to help you with your holiday cards as well. The new designs and printing options are fantastic! You can either do the traditional photo print card where the design and photo are printed as a single sided 5×7 photographic print or you can choose a gorgeous design that incorporates your photos and have a modern folded greeting card printed on yummy paper stock-there is even an eco paper that is produced by wind energy!
The folded card options include 5×7″, 5×5″, 5×5″ trifold and 4.5 x 5″ 4 panel accordian fold for those of you who have lots of family photos to include. And you can now get your gift tags to match including a photo from your holiday portrait session! Here are a few inspirations.

We set out on a somewhat spontaneous camping trip this weekend. I found a site available to book online at the San Clemente State Beach instead of having to go down to the park and put our name in a lottery. We loaded up the car on Saturday with so much stuff I thought we were going away for a week. In fact, we were going 5 minutes away for 1 night. A bit different packing than my mountaineering days.
We arrived at noon and immediately Merrik wanted to go surfing so he and Jim headed down to the beach while I put Maliea down for a nap. Before too long she and I were headed down to the sand and as she walked toward the water she stripped down preparing to go all the way in.
Later we were joined by Jim’s friend, Steve, and his family and around dinner time my parents came by with my niece Rose. It was a fantastic evening with a great bonfire and wonderful company. The only complaint I would have is that the campground was really noisy. Big groups partied late into the night and people roaming about at 3:00am were talking at full decibel. The kids did great, nonetheless, and we are already looking forward to the next campout.

Every morning Maliea goes outside. One of the first things she does is go outside. She’s been doing this since she started walking at 9 months. No matter the weather, no matter how early she gets up. I have video of her and Merrik outside in freezing cold weather when I could barely handle being out with them. Even when it’s cold she loves to go out and play in the water. Her first word besides Dada was “outside.” She’s my kinda girl.

We went on our annual Halloween outing this year to the Irvine Park. It is a beautiful location and so much nicer than the typical commercial pumpkin patch. Merrik loves the train and even enjoyed the straw bale maze and haunted house this year. Maliea had a good time keeping up with Merrik in the bounce house and climbing onto the bales of hay to stick her head through the face hole and have her picture taken (what ARE those things called?)
I usually hate the photos from the bounce house. The color is horrible shooting inside one of those things and trying to get anything viewable between the netting is impossible. However, this time around I did get a few cute ones. It was convenient that no other kids were in there!

On this day in 2000 we were sailing from our beloved Fare, Huahine to Moorea. Before we departed we watched Fare go from a sleepy polynesian village to a full blown event center accommodating 5000 visitors. It was insane. We had to move our boat from the prime anchorage on the reef across from Fare Pass to down the lagoon away from town. As we set sail en route to the next island we watched the start of the Hawaiki Nui Va’a which is the event everyone had come in by sea to experience.
I loved Fare and we have some fond memories of hanging out there with the other cruisers. Jim surfed an amazing wave that was an easy dinghy ride out from the boat and I had an unbelievable dive in the pass where I saw a huge manta ray and tiger shark. The tiger shark thankfully was a good distance away – 50 feet – but the manta swam right by and nearly brushed my shoulder. It is impossible to explain an experience like that.
It has been 9 years now and I feel the draw back more and more every day. I have started working on a series of photography books that cover the various portfolios of my archived work. Maka‘i is a photographic book about our life on the ocean. “We lived on the ocean, we swam in the ocean, we surfed in the ocean, we ate from the ocean. These are some of the images that came alive on film while we were on our sailing adventure.”
